Day/Night RV Shade Tips
RV day/night shades are an integral part of your RVing enjoyment. Shades that are out of adjustment lend it self to a frustrating experience. This frustration can be eased with adequate adjustment.
The strings are the most important part of adjustment. Strings are made of braided linen. If tension is too tight the string stretches and will eventually wear out with use and break prematurely. Most RV manufacturers install the shades very tight to avoid the shade from vibrating down during delivery. It will be up to you, the new owner, to understand what is going on with the shade.
You may need to use an offset screwdriver (pictured below) to make the adjustments. It will allow you to adjust your shades without removing the cornice box. Check your local hardware store. There are at least four identifiable adjustments: (a) too loose, (b) too tight (c) one side loose and (d) just right. The just right adjustment is up to you, the user.
ADJUSTMENT
Locate the string button on the base of the shade cowling. Acquire appropriate screw driver. Hold the string in one hand; loosen button screw with screw driver. Adjust tension on string to your satisfaction, tighten screw. It is important to extend the life of your shade string. Coating both sides of the exposed string in the cowling with white bar soap or paraffin (white candle) will allow the shade to flow easier up and down. The adjustment and coating of the string with white bar soap or paraffin (candle) may extend the life of the string and shade.
